News: United Energy Services excels for KBR and the Solid Waste Authority of Palm Beach

In June, United Energy Services completed a specialty welding project for KBR and the Solid Waste Authority (SWA) in West Palm Beach, Florida on the first new waste-to-energy (WTE) power plant to be built in the United States in twenty years.  During the duration of this six month project, United Energy Services handled all the critical welding assignments on-site as a subcontractor for KBR’s Power Division.

When this plant is completed, expected in the first quarter of 2015, it will process a million tons of municipal solid waste annually producing electricity and reducing the waste sent to the county’s landfill by up to 90 percent.

United Energy Services completed our scope on this project with a staff including a project supervisor and 8 critical tube welders.  Our team was responsible for the welding of all the critical tube on this project.  We successful completed multiple critical tube weld lines including boiler superheat and reheat tubes, roof tubes and panel welds while in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Throughout the duration of the project United Energy Services welders successfully completed over 1,000 critical welds, all which required x-ray.  Our success rate and quality of welders caught the eye of KBR’s Quality Assurance Project Manager, Brian Ford.  Brian acknowledged that “the United Energy Services team committed to and provided the highest quality welders and leadership on-site.”

As a company, Safety is our first and most important company value.  This project was no exception and we delivered a clean safety record throughout our six months in Florida.   This didn’t go unnoticed and we were commended on-site for our company pledge to take a safety first approach each day on the job.  We were acknowledged several times on-site on our safety merits and received recognition from many KBR and SWA employees both on-site and from their home offices.  KBR’s Rick Goolsby, Project Construction Manager over the SWA project, commended our Project supervisor, Blaine Jones, for his ability to handle many safety issue before they arose on-site “Blaine (Jones) has taken immediate care of us and handled many issues before they happened. We appreciate your team’s attention to detail.”

Ultimately, we are always striving for new and innovative ways to improve our overall safety, quality and productivity while on-site.  These concentrated focuses allow us to meet KBR’s specific needs and work specifications while finishing our work scope ahead of schedule and under budget.

Rick closed his appreciation for our team’s work by reflecting on our time on the West Palm Beach project, “Looking back, bringing in your team (United Energy Services) as a tube welding subcontractor was the most viable solution we could have made from a quality standpoint on this project.  Your reputation on-site speaks for itself.”

As a company, we are grateful for the opportunity given to us by KBR.  We look forward to developing this relationship for many years to come.
